Why: The only thing which bothers us in this sensor is price. The rest is just fantastic and it even comes with two outstanding features - it includes lux sensor (very rear) and can be pet immune.

Frequent questions about Philips Hue Indoor Motion Sensor

Can you configure when the sensor will start reporting no motion?

Yes, there’s a setting in the app that says “when there is no motion after ___ minutes” the quickest setting is 1 minute. Then from there 2,3,5,7,10, and increments up to 60.

Does Philips Hue Motion Sensor come with lux sensor?

Yes  This means you can also set how bright/dim you want the light to be to trigger any automations. For example you can make your staircase lights only to turn on on motion if it is dark enough.

Is Philips Hue Indoor Motion Sensor pet sensitive?

It has three motion sensitivity settings maybe if you set it to the lowest it might not

Can it be used outdoor?

Better not, it is better to use it only indoors as it does not have sufficient insulation.

Can you use the more than one sensor with the same lights?

Yes you can. You can also use two (or more) sensors to cover large, or a weird area. In Hue app you can enable to link multiple sensors to work together in “Lab” section. SmartThings and Home Assistant can do it even easier via WebCore or built in YAML edditor

Using Philips Hue Indoor Motion Sensor with Home Assistant

As we mentioned, this is probably one of the best sensors to use if you happy to invest a bit more for flexibility and ease of use.

How to connect to Home Assistant

The easiest way to do is to use Hue Component. You will also need a zigbee controller, you can use Hue controller or look at our list of best hardware for home assistant for recommendations.

Issues and tips

Overall it works well with Home Assistant, but some users report of a high response time (see forum post). There are number of solutions, but the easiest is to use if with Node Red. Also connecting it directly with home assistant server via zigbee stick might resolve the issue (again, see best hardware for home assistant for recommendations)
