Get A Picture Of People Leaving And Entering Your House ($70)

Knowing that your door was opened when you are away and not expecting it might be very useful. At the same time, it is often not enough as you do not have enough information to trigger the alarm.

This routine is part of the Automation Bank, a community-driven list of over 50 practical automation ideas for your smart home. Read more about Automation Bank or search ideas by room, by device or by use case. Also, have a look at best home automation ideas as voted by our users.

This automation will add more richness to the notification that your front door was opened or closed.

How Does It Work?

  • Install your camera in your hallway facing the entrance to the door
  • Trigger: test the best delay between opening your entrance door and having a good picture of the person entering or leaving the house.
    • Consider using a motion sensor or your cameras as a more reliable way to detect movement
  • Condition: this routine can work only when you are away or all the time
  • Action: Send a snapshot of a person entering the house to your messaging system. I use Telegram because it is so easy to setup
