You do a number of things every single day. Automating them means more time to enjoy what you like.
This routine is part of the Automation Bank, a community-driven list of over 50 practical automation ideas for your smart home. Read more about Automation Bank or search ideas by room, by device or by use case. Also, have a look at best home automation ideas as voted by our users.
Bed routines, or things you do every day before going to sleep, are one of those things. This routine can automate thing like switch off all the lights, checking that windows and doors are closed, arming your security system, and change the climate settings.
How Does It Work?
The main thing is to have a trigger that would work the best for you. There are four options we can think off:
- Physical Button: pressing a Zigbee / Z-wave / RF button
- Motion Detection: No movement in the bedroom after some period of motion after 10 am
- Time: Automatically switch to “Good Night” mode at a certain time
- Phone Activity: “Good Night” mode if no internet activity for 10 minutes
ADVANCED
- Track your sleep time based on the motion.
- Also, automate your night lights (see our no more walking in the dark automation)
- Add other morning automation to make the best of the automation like morning tea, weather forecast or rain alert
- Trigger Good Night routine when you step on the Withings scale after 10pm
